True Colours is a reflection on how individuals differ in both experiencing and expressing emotions. The colours within the piece represent different emotional states, while the number of strokes reflects their intensity and abundance. Some carry an overflow of feeling, layered and complex, while others hold very little, or none at all.
Emotions are not fixed—they are shaped over time, through experience and growth. What one person perceives as joy may feel entirely different to another; one person’s yellow may be someone else’s blue. The same moment, the same memory, does not evoke the same response in everyone.
This work explores that contrast—reminding us that emotional worlds are deeply personal, and no two are ever truly the same. No matter what your colour of emotion is, all colours deserve to be seen, understood, and respected.
