This art piece features the year I was born and the month my parents got married. It represents me inside a can labeled Handmade Open at Your Own Risk. The can is more than just a container; it’s a symbol of how I’ve grown, shaped myself, and navigated life largely on my own.

This work is also a message to my parents a question about how much they would really want to know about me, after I’ve spent years raising myself while they focused on their own lives. The label Open at Your Own Risk reflects the complexity of who I am, the experiences I carry, and the resilience I’ve had to develop along the way.

Through this piece, I explore identity, independence, and the boundaries between parental expectation and self-discovery. It’s a reflection on the effort it takes to nurture yourself when the care you needed wasn’t fully given, and a reminder that sometimes the most important growth comes from within.
