Dipping Into the Unknown

Dipping into the Unknown is a personal self-portrait exploring the feeling of standing on the edge of visibility hiding, yet looking toward the other side of colour, opportunity, and new experience. It reflects the uncertainty of what lies ahead when stepping beyond comfort and familiarity.

There is no clarity of what exists on the other side only possibility, fear, and curiosity. The work captures that suspended moment between staying hidden and choosing to move forward into the unknown.

The Inspiration :)

I painted this piece around my fourth or fifth month of living in London, at a time when I was still trying to figure things out. Everything felt new, unfamiliar, and full of possibilities, but I wasn’t quite sure where I belonged or what I was working towards.

This self-portrait became a reflection of how I felt back then a part of me wanting to stay hidden in what felt safe and familiar, while another part was drawn towards everything that lay beyond it. The colours represented the opportunities, experiences, and versions of myself I had yet to discover. But stepping towards them also meant stepping into uncertainty, without knowing what I would find on the other side.

Looking back, I think this painting captures that strange in-between feeling of starting over. When you know you cannot stay where you are forever, but you are not quite ready to let go and step into what comes next. There was fear, curiosity, and a quiet hope that perhaps something beautiful was waiting for me.

I didn’t have all the answers then, and maybe that was the point. Sometimes, all you can do is dip a little into the unknown and see where it takes you.
